Since its inception, the vision of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences has been an institution of excellence in creating a people-centred, ecologically sustainable and just society that promotes and protects dignity, equity, social justice and human rights for all.

Today, TISS has earned recognition as a nationally and internationally reputed institution of social sciences from different Ministries of the Government of India; various State Governments; International agencies such as the United Nations; and the non-government sector, both national and international. Further, TISS has been actively engaged in promoting women-led ecologically sustainable development and empowering marginalized communities to build a more inclusive, prosperous and harmonious society

We are indeed gifted with immense talent among our faculty, researchers and students to convene the brightest minds to work on the most pressing problems in India and beyond. Our Mission :

The Centre for Excellence in CSR at Tata Institute of Social Sciences is dedicated to empowering local communities and advancing equity and sustainability. This Centre is committed to addressing the evolving social challenges through the creation and dissemination of knowledge. Our mission is to actively contribute to the establishment of a people-centred, ecologically sustainable, and just society. We strive to uphold and defend the dignity, equality, social justice, and human rights of all individuals.

Through strategic extension, field action, and advocacy, we aim to enhance the capacity of both State and non-state institutions. We will initiate field action and advocacy efforts to demonstrate and facilitate the creation of policies and programs that align with our vision of “empowering local community and enhancing equity and sustainability”. Through training and capacity-building initiatives, we will empower individuals and organizations to actively participate in the promotion of a more equitable and sustainable society.

About the Centre

In response to guidelines issued by the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE) in March 2010, the National Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Hub was established at TISS in 2011. This initiative aimed to facilitate Public Sector Enterprises, Corporates, and Not-for-Profit organizations in conceiving, planning, and executing comprehensive CSR initiatives aligned with their vision, values, and objectives.

On 1st August 2019, the National CSR Hub was renamed as the Centre for Excellence in Corporate Social Responsibility (CECSR) with the vision to comprehensively support public and private sectors in carrying out their CSR activities through social impact assessment of projects, knowledge creation, capacity building of various stakeholders associated with CSR, and empanelment of NGOs and CSOs.
