Message From Chairperson

Geetanjoy Sahu is a Professor at the Centre for Climate Change & Sustainability Studies, School of Habitat Studies, Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai. His research and teaching interests include environmental jurisprudence, environmental regulation and policy, land and forest rights, the political economy of public policy implementation, and environmental movements. He has been closely associated with South Asia's forest rights and environmental justice networks. He served as a member of various government committees in different capacities. He is the Dean of the School of Habitat Studies and also serves as the Chairperson of the Centre for Climate Change and Sustainability Studies under the same school. In addition, he holds the position of Chairperson at the Centre for Excellence in CSR.

Our Mission :

The Centre for Excellence in CSR at Tata Institute of Social Sciences is dedicated to empowering local communities and advancing equity and sustainability. This Centre is committed to addressing the evolving social challenges through the creation and dissemination of knowledge. Our mission is to actively contribute to the establishment of a people-centred, ecologically sustainable, and just society. We strive to uphold and defend the dignity, equality, social justice, and human rights of all individuals.

Through strategic extension, field action, and advocacy, we aim to enhance the capacity of both State and non-state institutions. We will initiate field action and advocacy efforts to demonstrate and facilitate the creation of policies and programs that align with our vision of “empowering local community and enhancing equity and sustainability”. Through training and capacity-building initiatives, we will empower individuals and organizations to actively participate in the promotion of a more equitable and sustainable society.

About the Centre

In response to guidelines issued by the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE) in March 2010, the National Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Hub was established at TISS in 2011. This initiative aimed to facilitate Public Sector Enterprises, Corporates, and Not-for-Profit organizations in conceiving, planning, and executing comprehensive CSR initiatives aligned with their vision, values, and objectives.

On 1st August 2019, the National CSR Hub was renamed as the Centre for Excellence in Corporate Social Responsibility (CECSR) with the vision to comprehensively support public and private sectors in carrying out their CSR activities through social impact assessment of projects, knowledge creation, capacity building of various stakeholders associated with CSR, and empanelment of NGOs and CSOs.
